Youth groups sign peace accord

Youth groups in the city signed a covenant against gang violence, vandalism, and bullying.

Under the covenant, the youth are enjoined to attend seminars on laws on anti-hazing and anti-bullying, and discovery weekend program. They also committed to engage themselves in the city’s anti graffiti and a clean-up drives in the central business district.

The covenant signing happened during the Riot concert of local rap artists and 18 YouTube sensation rappers from Manila at the Baguio Athletic Bowl, organized by the National Youth Commission.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Councilor Robert Ortega who chairs the committee on peace and order signed as witnesses to the covenant.

The covenant is the local youth, rap artists, and riot event organizer’s way of adhering to local and national laws and their unison in enhancing unity, peace, and understanding among youth oriented groups within the City.

Domogan said the covenant may not be the law but it is a commitment and an important document that serves as a reminder to the youth about their commitment.

He assured his help to the youth as long as they will help themselves. He also encouraged the youth to submit proposal of activities they want to do.

“We cannot come up with activities that the youth do not want. It’s better if they suggest,” he said.
