LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Cordillera police have seized and destroyed some P21.97 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 24 persons engaged in the illegal trade in March this year.

PRO-Cor Information Officer Capt. Marnie Abellanida said P20.35M worth of marijuana were discovered and destroyed by the Benguet police while P1.48M worth of the illegal plants were uprooted and burned in Kalinga.

Abellanida said shabu worth P141,888 were confiscated in buy-bust operations by different operating units in the region.

He said PRO-Cor cops conducted 17 marijuana eradication operations which led to the destruction of 92,980 fully grown marijuana plants, 3,000 marijuana seedlings, and 26 kilos marijuana stalks.

Twenty-one buy-bust operations were conducted and led to the arrest of 24 drug personalities, nine of whom are listed as high-value individuals and 15 are listed as street level individuals.

The arrested suspects were charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

“In the course of the operations, 20.87 grams of shabu amounting to P141,888 were confiscated from the arrested suspects,” Abellanida said.

Abellanida said marijuana eradication operations are continuing activities as part of the supply reduction efforts of the Cordillera police. – PNA
