LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Personnel of the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO-CAR) celebrated Arbor Day by doing clean up drives and planting more than a thousand trees in different parts of the region. 

In Abra, personnel of the 1st Abra Police Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) participated in a tree planting activity at Casamata Hill National Park in Bangued where 70 mancinella and narra tree seedlings were planted. The activity was led by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.

In Ifugao, the Hingyon Municipal Police Station (MPS) initiated a tree planting activity at Mount Atugo, Barangay Bitu. Together with the 1st Ifugao PMFC, the local government unit of Hingyon, and the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo planted a total of 700 various tree seedlings.

In Mountain Province, the 1st Mountain Province PMFC and Sabangan MPS, along with the local officials of Sabangan and other civilian volunteers, joined in a tree planting activity initiated by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office-Sabangan  and planted 400 pine tree seedlings in Barangay Bun-ayan in Sabangan.

The Baguio City Police Office Police Station 1 along with the police trainees of Class 2023-01 “Balagsik” and barangay officials of Harrison-Carantes-Claudio conducted a clean-up drive along Carantes and Diego Silang streets, ensuring a pristine and welcoming environment for all residents and visitors.

According to the PRO-CAR Public Information Office, tree planting activities exemplify the PNP’s aim to protect and preserve natural resources while promoting social responsibility for environmental protection and strengthening relationships within the community. These are also in line with the PNP’s “makakalikasan” core value.

The DENR said the activities conducted on Arbor Day will help bring positive changes to the environment, including the lowering of greenhouse gasses and the promotion of care for nature, and against global warming. – Redjie Melvic Cawis
