On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. (John 2:1-11)
If we ponder on the first miracle of Jesus, we will better understand God’s will about marriage. Jesus will always intervene on marital and family issues. He will always make miracles to save relationships especially marital and family relationships.
The sad reality today is the over emphasized trust of government officials to their human capacity to the point of ignoring and violating God.
Human capacity is becoming prevalent in the planning, decision making, and implementation. The sense of God and the sense of His presence are getting lost.
We therefore constantly pray that pride and selfishness among government officials be overcome by the gifts of the Holy Spirit for best discernment and best decisions.
For this reason, he is mediator of a new covenant: since a death has taken place for deliverance from transgressions under the first covenant, those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance. (Hebrews 9:15)
Jesus continues to feed us with the Holy Eucharist for the forgiveness of sins and to keep the church in unity.
While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.” (Matthew 14:25)
The Body of Christ can be understood fourfold.
First, the Body of Christ as physical body. Jesus is a real human person born from an immaculately conceived woman named Mary. He lived with humanity. He suffered. He died. He resurrected. Now, it is a glorified body.
Second, the Body of Christ as the heavenly bread we receive in the Holy Mass to feed our souls.
Third, the Body of Christ as the mysticalbody called church. We are incorporated to the church through baptism. The church cannot collapse or crumble amidst odds because Jesus founded it and blessed it with the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. It has been living for more than 2,000 years as testified by the scriptures, “Peter upon this rock, I will build my church.” Matthew 16:18.
Fourth, the Body of Christ as the family called the domestic church. The family therefore must be protected from vices, from evil, and from any form of evil that destroy it. Human laws nowadays are being crafted to destroy the Body of Christ but they promote same sex marriage, divorce, abortion, and transgender.
Marriage as a sacrament of God for man and woman can have its beautiful and profound sacredness when seen in the Body of Christ. Marital problems sometimes come but faithful couples will treat them as constructive challenges.
Christian marriages will even look at marital problems as ways and avenues for the couple to holiness. The sense of values such as sacrifice, patience, and determination are employed by couples and not sheerly resorting to separation. Divorce is not the solution to marital and family problems.
The legalization of divorce is opening doors and windows for more family problems. Divorce will weaken the basic foundation of society and eventually breaks society. The legalization of divorce is an affirmation of a weakening morality and eventually eroding morality. The legalization of divorce will surely bring more moral issues which the government cannot solve with sheer human comprehension.
The “Body of Christ” must be broken only to be shared and not to be broken for destruction.
The government leaders especially those entrusted with crafting laws must find more time to be with God to listen in order to discern well.
Any law that violates the natural design of God, any law that alienates the human person from spirituality, any law that fortifies the erosion of morality, any law that blurs and weakens people’s faith, any law that confuses the conscience is not the law of God but of human origin. Fellow Roman Catholics, be vigilant against the laws of men.
