The Cordillera Weaving Industry Council (CWIC) is all out in its support to promote the weaving industry in the region.

Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Pepita Picpican said CWIC member-agencies continue their support to stakeholders in the weaving industry.

“Continuing pa rinyung support natin for product development, innovation, improvement of packaging and labeling for the quality of our women products,” Picpican said.

The CWIC will also continue the business registration facilitation for the weavers through the Department of Trade and Industry, and assistance to market their woven products including online marketing.

“Continuing ang encouragement natin sa mga weavers sa mga provinces to join or supply their products in the OTOP Hubs in the provinces or in the ONE Store,” she said.

Picpican said equipment and technology are also being provided to the farmers and weavers.

The Philippine Textile Research Institute-DOST recently inaugurated the first silk filature facility for silkworm textile production at the Kalinga State University-Rizal Campus.

The Apayao State College is also waiting for the delivery of the equipment for the pre-processing of fibers from pineapple leaves.

The CWIC Technical Working Group convened to discuss the Cordillera Weaving Industry Development Plan (CWIDP) accomplishments for 2021 and the CWIC Calendar Year 2022 Work Plan.

Also discussed are the proposed activities to be conducted during the 2nd Cordillera Weaving Industry Summit slated this July coinciding with the celebration of the Cordillera Month.

The CWIC chaired by the DOST is the recognized body to implement  the CWIDP, which  envisions a Cordillera-inspired, creative, and vibrant weaving industry that is sustainable, resilient, and globally competitive, advanced by a community of artisans and entrepreneurs for the benefit of the Cordillera people. – Debbie E.
