The Department of Agriculture in the Cordillera has approved the inclusion in its 2021 budget a P75-million worth vegetable processing facility to be installed within the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center.

One facility is worth P50M, the other has a smaller capacity. Odsey said in a press conference on Thursday.

Odsey said that the machines, composed of a drying, dehydrating, or juicing equipment for some vegetables like carrots and tomatoes will be placed in a processing center.

Odsey said the decision to put up the facility was due to the reported rotting of tons of carrots from Buguias and tomatoes from Ifugao during the enhanced community quarantine.

Odsey said there had been a lack of buyers and low demand for fresh vegetables, during the quarantine.

“Maliit ang demand dahil nawala ang mga activities that require the public to buy,” he said.

During the last BAPTC board meeting, he said a private local investor showed interest in making carrot juice. – PNA
