AT FIRST THOUGHT, I was going to entitle our Discussion today as: Sumetlaeng (Nabaloi informal, as well as Iowak, and Iluko, to mean: “Same as usual”), and akin to Pangasinan: Sikato la met; or (its) ‘allied’ Kalanguya: Hihgato met laeng, etc., but it dawned upon me that: ‘why, this in Idee is not only a local – or ‘regional’, EXPRESSION/EXPR, but also a national one; thus our choice of the title in the National Language.
THE CONCEPT NUCLEI or Idee of Dating gawi is likewise expressed other ways, to wit: Siang na dedan/gedan (SO./N. Kankana-ey); Hiya met lang (Tuwali Ifugao); pareho/mao gihapon (Cebuano); iya naman/iya murin (Kapampangan); et cetera. So, Dating gawi?
AYE! HARK!.. AND Hear ye! Hear ye! Then, look yonder, and behold!
HEAR THOSE NAMES you’ve heard (or ‘met’) before – and some only now – but one-after-the-other flashed on radio – and on other Media outlets? They incessantly keep coming – some by seconds, some a bit longer.. P.A.U.S.E.s, and then you hear them again.. before and/or after the program segments. Ah-ha, and the listeners or viewers?
SAME WAY(S) TOO! After a few flashes of the names, they ‘already know’ – ammo dan, or can recognize the sedate purpose(s): Dating gawi! They’ll say and you’ll hear some exclamatories like:
“WHAT? HE’S RUNNING again? But, didn’t he finish already his 3rd term?” And the answer-immediate comes:
‘YES, HE DID.. but after that, he got elected in a next-step-‘lower’ position.. now, he’s eligible again. But you’re right: this will be his 4th term – same former position, if he wins again!’ [“And the electorates?” would have been the follow-up question, but a speaker third has this anticipated, and she adds]:
‘LOOK YONDER.. OR around: we see those pictures in the vehicles – firmly tacked or glued..
‘IF YOU READ or see closer what are in them, prima facie, they’re for this – or that, ‘movement’, purpose, advocacy, etc.; but read on and you’ll agree:
THEY’RE AS IF saying: “Hello there! I’m here again!” or “You remember me, don’t you?” or “Thank you for your usual support!” and so on. So,
BOTH WAYS – FILERS of COCs as well as the Electorates: Dating gawi? The filers enamour the ‘general public’ with their plans, visions, articulations, or the like; and in turn, the Electorates feel pleasured, assured, even ‘secured’ by the magnificence and plausibilities of the Filers’ designs or ‘grand’ missions or visions? Answer: Many, if not most; except the Nanakem or Manag-amiris (Deep-thinking and examining ones) who’ll respond – vocally or otherwise: uh-huh, ay isu? (Transl: “EXPR, is that so?”). but candidly, and
‘IN FAIRNESS’ – NOT all (of us) Electorates just watch, or listen to those we’re saying that come by and then, conclude – or dismiss – the issue with: nah, dating gawi! Look at what have been happening in our conferences, assemblies, meetings – before and after the October 1 Filing of COCs day. The discussions on today’s ills and crises confronting us are on-goingly serious.
THE FILERS TOO. Some have not gone Dating gawi, before and until now. They’ve filed though – of which one implication is: they’ll be chosen or they’ll get elected some ways somehow.
DESPITE THE DATING gawi ‘threat’ or challenge, let’s trust and hope: our people in general, have gone lessoned and matured from the Past. Ayuhh!
