LICUAN-BAAY, Abra – The Philippine Dental Association-Abra Dental held a mission and community outreach program in Barangay Tumalip this town in celebration of the National Dental Health Month of February.
Backed by partner agencies such as the Philippine Army, Highway Patrol Group, Rural health Unit of LGU Licuan-Baay, Philippine National Police and other stakeholders, the group delivered services such as libreng gupit, feeding program, dental services, medical check-ups, and distributed multi-vitamins, school supplies and hygiene kits.
More than 200 Binongan learners in five elementary schools in the area benefitted during the outreach program.
PDA-Abra president, Dr. John Pacis said the activity aimed to campaign for good oral hygiene practices for the people.
“Let us remind our fellow Abreños that oral hygiene is very important to our overall health. Sana po, hindi kung kailan lang masakit ang mga ngipin natin tsaka tayo bibisita sa ating mga dentista. Let us consult our dentist at least once a year,” he said.
“Consume nutritious foods also and less on sweets, less soft drinks and chocolates or any other food that could damage our teeth,” he added.
Pacis also offered the free tooth extraction service of the Provincial Health Office to all Abreños.
“May libreng bunot ng ngipin po tayo sa Abra Provincial Hospital hatid sa atin ng provincial government, from Mondays to Fridays and all you need to bring is your vaccination card,” Pacis said.
This year’s celebration theme is “Ngiting Protektado, Ngiting Panalo” which aims to strengthen awareness and reiterate the importance of good oral hygiene habits by reaching out to all Filipinos to keep their teeth, gums, and the mouth healthy. – Christian Allister Tubadeza
