TINGLAYAN, Kalinga – The Schools Division of Kalinga recently launched two transformative projects – the “Speak your heart out” and “In-inop we anlin-awaan (million narra trees) in Buscalan and Bugnay, this municipality.
Schools Division Superintendent Natividad Bayubay led the project launching which was witnessed by Dangal ng Haraya awardee Maria “Whang-od” Oggay, a native of Buscalan and the oldest living Kalinga mambabatok (tattoo artist), and other villagers on June 1.
DepEd Kalinga Schools Division Office information officer Merlyne Gumatay said the “Speak your heart out” is a project designed to enhance communication and promote expression among members of the community through the translation of the Ihuthut dialect into different local and international languages.
It also aims to ge-nerate income opportunities for learners in host barangays and create a sustainable future for traditional crafts in the village.
“Project In-inop we anlin-awaan: A green gesture for a sustainable future”, was launched at the Southern Tinglayan National High School.
It is a tree planting activity, which targets to plant one million narra trees with the goal of preserving indigenous lands of Barangay Bugnay and will extend to other districts in the Schools Division to help mitigate climate change, Gumatay said. Bayubay thanked those who supported the projects as she emphasized the importance of these initiatives towards the preservation of their cultural identity.
