SAGADA, Mountain Province – The Schools Division Office-Mountain Pro-vince, in cooperation with the local government of Sagada and other stakeholders, recently launched a partnership program to provide holistic opportunities for learners in this town to unfold their potentials and bridge the gap on the disparity of learning services.

Oplan Gandu-yan, which stands for Genuine Association and Networking in Diverse Projects, Programs, Activities and United for Youth Development to become Assets to Nation Building was launched on Nov. 24 at Payag-eo Elementary School.

MP-SDO Senior Education Program Specialist and Social Mobilization Officer Sonia Batnag said Oplan Ganduyan is a partnership program crafted to ensure collaborative efforts between the Department of Education and its stakeholders for the sake of all learners in Sagada.

It is anchored on DepEd Cordillera’s Project of Holistic Opportunities for learners to be Performing and Excellent (HOPE) and Transformation.

Along with the launching was the turnover of tablets and reading materials to the Payag-eo ES  under DepEd’s Digital Brigada Pagbasa, and  vitamins, radio and snacks under the Enhanced Adopt-a-School Program.

Schools Division Superintendent Sally B. Ulalim said learning poverty does not only exist in Mountain Province but in the Philippines.

She said this is because of the lack of resources and that DepEd alone cannot work for the children.

“We, the Schools Division of Mountain Province, assure you that we are doing our best. We do not sleep. Our teachers work so hard; our school heads work so hard. But we still need you,” she said.

Rep. Maximo B. Dalog, Jr. represented by Dionisio K. Wacdisen said the office wishes to continue collaborating with DepEd and the officials to realize the goal to adopt a comprehensive approach for a better learning for the learners.

Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. through Executive Assistant Ernesto B. Bondad, stressed on the importance of education as a tool to achieve development in the province and an avenue to make a person become a better citizen.

Sagada Mayor Felicito O. Dula also committed his support to the program citing the welfare of the children must always be a top priority of everyone.

Stakeholders signed the pledge of commitment for the program during the event. The roll out of the Oplan Ganduyan will be continued throughout the week in the different barangays of Sagada. – Valerie Taguba
