Emerging and experienced designers, individuals, or design teams with an assigned spokesperson are called to participate in the design competition for the Katha Awards trophy which will underscore design excellence, ingenuity, innovation, and sustainability.

The Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (Citem) said the Katha Awards, its initiative since the early ‘80s during Manila Fame, recognizes ingenious designs by Philippine exporters and manufacturers.

“It is an emblem and statement that seeks to inspire and challenge exporters to constantly create and develop original and innovative products from the home, fashion, and lifestyle sectors, and from the food sector of the country,” the Department of Trade and Industry’s export promotion arm said.

The selection criteria for the Katha Awards trophy include design excellence and aesthetic appeal involving visual impact, design cohesion, and presentation; creativity, ingenuity and innovation; and sustainability and functionality pertaining to usability, manufacturing feasibility, and materials and processes.

The deadline of submission of entries is on Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.

Tropeo Katha offers monetary reward, promotion and marketing support, and design use for the winner and finalists.

One winning designer/design team will receive P30,000 subject to tax and a certificate. The winner will be announced and awarded at the Manila Fame on Oct. 19 to 21.

The winning individual/team and design will be promoted by Citem through its platforms and channels and partner publications.
