BANGUED, Abra – Four Abrenian firms are set to receive a cash assistance from the Department of Science and Technology through its Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (Setup).

The DOST through its Provincial Science and Technology Training held a signing of a memorandum of agreement with D&C Enterprise, Alijede Construction Services, Window Tek Window Installation Services and S&G Agricultural Supply, the  first approved proponents under Setup for 2023.

Under the program, Bautista said a P3.23 million cash assistance will be released to the beneficiaries for the procurement for technology upgrading of processing equipment machineries, training program, and other technical assistance.

DOST-Abra SETUP Focal Person Rona Mae Bautista said this banner program of the agency can be availed by enterprises to upgrade production capability.

“This program will help them to grow and expand their firm so that they can further generate more income and mployment,”Bautista said.

In an interview with Dario Buenafe of D&C Enterprises in La Paz, he said the SETUP has helped his business grow in the past years and is now under SETUP phase 2.

“I am currently producing sugarcane products and ever since I availed of the SETUP of DOST, my business was boosted and I was able to upgrade my production equipment,” Buenafe said.

For this year, he proposed a packaging technology solution in increasing the productivity of his enterprise. Among his products are sugarcane wine and muscuvado.

SETUP is a flagship program of the DOST encouraging and assisting micro, small, and medium enterprises to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, and operations and increase their productivity and competitiveness. – Christian Allister Tubadeza
