LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Department of Social Welfare and Development -Cordillera, in line with its vision to ensure continuing pro-active approach in preparedness and effective response capabilities in times of calamities, acquired a new and bigger warehouse for its emergency supplies.
DSWD-Cordillera officials headed by Director Leo Quintilla led on Dec. 2, the blessing and inauguration of its newly rented warehouse at Barangay Puguis, as well as the wing van delivery truck donated by Benguet Rep. Eric Yap.
The event was graced by DSWD Usec. for Disaster Response Operations Atty. Marco Bautista and Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Chairperson and Civil Defense Regional Director Albert Mogol and representatives from the offices of Yap, Benguet Gov. Melchor Diclas, and La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda.
With the rented warehouse, DSWD-Cordillera can now store 40,000 family food packs (FFPs) and non-food items (NFIs) at any given time from the 18,000 family food packs and non-food items it used to store.
The donated wing van will also be a big help for disaster response operations in the Cordillera.
Quintilla expressed gratitude to their partners in the efficient disaster response logistics and support. 
DSWD Sec. Erwin Tulfo, in a message read by Marco Bautista, assured that as vice-chairperson for Disaster Response Cluster of the National DRRMC, DSWD will continuously work in strengthening their capabilities to ensure the availability of prepositioned important food and non-food items, as well as the delivery of the needed social welfare services in every community during times of disaster and emergency.
“Bilang vice-chair ng NDRRMC, patuloy na ginagampanan ng DSWD ang tungkulin nito na maihatid ang sapat at nararapat na serbisyo publiko para sa ating mga kababayan na naapektuhan ng bagyo at mga kalamidad,” Tulfo said.
“Isa sa ating isinasagawa ay ang pagpapalakas ng mga mekanismo at sistema pagdating sa disaster response upang magkaroon ng sapat na prepositioned goods sa mga lugar na madalas daanan ng kalamidad,” he added.
The DSWD-Cordillera also awarded certificate of appreciation to its partners in warehouse operation and production and delivery of family food packs and non-food items during disaster and emergencies. – Carlito Dar
