An evacuation center in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet that was converted into an isolation facility recently opened in Benguet to cater to the growing number of individuals who test positive for Covid-19.
Gov. Melchor Diclas said the Department of Health-accredited facility is already in its full capacity with 20 Covid-19 patients while the Benguet General Hospital has reached its full 40-bed capacity for same patients.
“BeGH is our main isolation facility. We will prioritize those with symptomatic cases to be brought to the hospital while asymptomatic cases would be brought to the evacuation center,” Diclas said.
Confirmed Covid-19 patients from the province are subjected to additional laboratory test, physical examination, and x-ray. Those categorized as stable and asymptomatic will be transported to the isolation facility at Wangal.
The Benguet State University dorm is also being prepared as an additional isolation facility, but it has to be accredited first by DOH.
The governor has urged the 13 municipalities to provide their own isolation facilities to cater to stable asymptomatic patients.
Earlier, BeGH Chief Meliarazon Dulay said the hospital is already full, which led them to prioritize Covid-19 positive patients who are symptomatic, have comorbidity, pregnant, newly-given birth, or have recently undergone operation. – Ofelia C. Empian
