LUBA, Abra – The Department of Labor and Employment recently granted a livelihood package to former overseas Filipino workers in one of the villages here.

A total of 350 ready-to-lay hens, a constructed laying facility, cages, layer’s feeds, and multivitamins were turned over to the Unified Association of OFWs of Barangay Sabnangan.

The project will benefit 40 former OFWs in the barangay.

Maira Banawe of the Public Employment and Services Office in Luba said the processing of the livelihood assistance worth P390,540 was done through the initiative of Luba Mayor Rosalina Biscarra and Barangay Sabnangan.

DOLE-Abra Officer-in-Charge Christopher Tugadi said the implementation of the project is in line with the agency’s reintegration service for former OFWs.

“This facilitates the productive return of the OFWs to their families and communities, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic,” Tugadi said.

Most OFWs in the province are still struggling to return abroad to work due to travel restrictions. – Christian Tubadeza
