BONTOC, Mountain Province – Se-venty-three rice farmers from the different barangays of Bontoc received from the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (Omag) bags of fertilizers on June 3.

Assistant Municipal Agriculturist Catherine Agcon said funds used to procure the farm inputs was sourced out from the Gender and Development fund under the Agricultural Intervention for Rice Program and High-Value Crops Development Program.

Agcon said the farmers who availed of the free fertilizers are registered in the Registry of Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).

She encouraged farmers and fisherfolk to enrol in the RSBSA so they could avail of future interventions from the Department of Agriculture.

Agcon said the registration is free and interested farmers may visit the OMAG located at the 4th floor of the Bontoc Municipal Capitol for inquiries.

Mayor Jerome Tudlong, Jr. extended his appreciation to the hardworking rice farmers and expressed hope for an abundant harvest.

He also committed the LGU’s support to the agriculture industry emphasizing that it plays a critical role in the development of not only the municipality but the country as a whole.

Meanwhile, the OMAG has procured pechay, snap beans, eggplant, sitaw, and ampalaya seeds to be distributed to anyone interested.
