The 2020-2021 president of the Rotary Club of Downtown Session is considered a visionary yuppie by the business community in Baguio. He is professional in his dealings and a result-oriented individual.
He was born in Baguio on Jan. 16, 1985 by proud parents Willy Tiu Tan and Aida Dela Cruz-Tan.
They must have beamed with joy as they saw their baby boy grow up with great values and character.
In the Chinese zodiac, he was born on the Year of the Wood Rat.
Those born in Year of the Wood Rat are supposed to be independent, smart, quick-witted, strong-willed, and ambitious.
He studied at Saint Louis Boys High School.
Influenced by the Tan family’s business inclination, he finished his Bachelor of Science major in Accountancy degree in 2006 at Saint Louis University. After college, he worked at the family business starting from the bottom slowly inching his way to the top. Like all of us starting a career, he experienced the difficulties of being an ordinary employee whose talents, efforts, and industry may remain unrecognized for many years. He learned the ropes of survival in the workplace and promised himself that when he would have a business of his own, he would help improve the lives of the people who matter most.
He rose to become finance manager of Km.6 General Merchandise. He also became the regional mega distributor of Universal Robina Corporation for Baguio, Benguet, Mountain Province, and La Union in 2012 up to the present, and chief financial officer of the family-owned Wynsland Development Corp. in 2015 likewise to date.
He started paddling his own boat and led two corporations – Perfect Leverage Food Corp. in 2019 and Full Mobility Food Corp. in 2020 which now holds the La Union franchise for Jollibee Bacnotan and Jollibee Lingsat.
He went into construction and built condominiums at affordable rates for students studying in Baguio. In La Union. He provided affordable meals to students around the university belt.
The guy is kind and selfless.
Looking for an avenue to serve, past president Jean Hamada-del Rosario invited him to attend the RCDS meetings and he saw for himself the patience and tireless efforts of the club and members to serve the community.
He soon took a more active role in the club and joined the rest in doing their best to achieve their goals. Helping others gave him confidence and courage to face the world of business or otherwise giving him a calming effect even in times of crisis, like the pandemic we are facing now.
He assumed as president since June 12 but was only inducted on Sept. 10.
Since his assumption, he already led four Saturdays of feeding programs, art competitions and just recently, turned over face masks from our brother club from Chuncheon, Korea to Sto. Niño Hospital administered by past president Doc Willy. Indeed, he is just starting out but already has his hands full.
The next president had a good fortune not only in business but also in love.
He met and fell in love with Carlyn Jao, a simple, unassuming, quiet lady who devoted herself to him.
The love affair was to be remembered when they tied the knot on Jan. 13, 2018 before family and friends. They now have a daughter.
The RCDS president Kelwyn Roi Tan of Rotary Club Downtown Session. Sigh.
