LAGAWE, Ifugao – The local government unit here warned hog raisers and the public to take extra precautions and observe bio-security measures to control and prevent the spread of the African swine fever (ASF).
Mayor Martin Habawel, Jr. said personnel of the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera who conducted laboratory test of specimens sent through the Provincial Veterinary Office informed the samples yielded positive of ASF.
“In this difficult time, we are appealing and soliciting the cooperation of everyone especially our barangay officials to take part in the prevention/control of the spread of the disease by guarding your own respective barangays,” Habawel said.
The mayor advised the residents and hog raisers not to allow anybody to enter their pigpen, provide foot bath at the entrance, and disinfect their premises daily.
He asked the hog raisers to avoid giving leftover food from restaurants to their pigs, buy meat only in the public market, and report any sign and symptom of any form of disease that may be manifested by their animals.
“Let us all cooperate and do our best to contribute in the prevention and control of this disease that has been affecting the hog industry of our municipality,” Habawel said. – Marcelo B. Lihgawon
