Benguet legislative caretaker Rep. Eric Go Yap has assured the immediate reconstruction of the buildings of Laurencio Fianza National High School (LFNHS) – Bantic annex in Dalupirip, Itogon, Benguet that were burned on Aug. 22.
Yap said he has already spoken to Department of Education Usec. Alain del Pascua to check on the availability of funds this year for the immediate rehabilitation and construction of the affected structures.
The fund for the reconstruction will be included in the 2022 national budget if DepEd could not source out funds to implement the project this year.
“A new school building will rise in Laurencio FNHS Bantic annex. As soon as face-to-face classes resume, the new building will welcome the students back. We will build back better. Hindi natin sila hahayaang mawalan ng mga classrooms,” Yap said.
Based on the initial report from the Benguet Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Council, the fire that burned the two buildings of the LFNHS-Bantic Annex started at the main building and is believed to have been caused by faulty electrical wiring.
The razed school buildings were mostly made out of old wood and galvanized sheets causing the fire to spread rapidly.
“It is one of the most isolated schools in Itogon and the school is a symbol of hope in these remote areas. We cannot let the community down,” Yap said.
