TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources under the Special Area for Agriculture Development (SAAD) program has distributed 174,000 tilapia fingerlings in 12 barangays.

The barangays covered in the mass releases are Mabato, Amlao, Balawag, Lacnog, Nambucayan, and Magnao, all of this city; Taloctoc, Mangali, and Gaang in Tanudan; and Sukiyap, Lower Uma, and Western Uma in Lubuagan.

There were also distributions to individuals in other towns, aside from the mass releases.

Provincial Fisheries Officer Joyce Ducyogen said feeds for tilapia-raising for five to six months before these are harvested.

She said the harvest is good for home consumption, but those with more than 100 square meters of fishpond sell some of their harvest.

Ducyogen encouraged small fishpond operators to sustain their fishponds while BFAR continues to provide fingerlings and conduct regular monitoring. – Peter A. Balocnit
