La Trinidad, Benguet will officially launch today, March 28, the municipality’s weekly “bike day.”
The first 150 registrants will join the launching, which will start from the municipal grounds, going towards Bell Church where bikers will make a U-turn back to La Trinidad.
Upon reaching La Trinidad, bikers will proceed towards the Pico-Puguis Road to Buyagan and make a turn towards the municipal ground where the ride ends.
There will be a ceremonial marking of bike lanes during the kickoff.
Councilor Teddy Walang said the bike day aims to encou-rage residents to consider cycling as an alternative mode of transportation and also as a form of exercise.
Since the pandemic, the number of bicycle users has doubled in the municipality, prompting local officials to initiate programs for the safety and guide of bikers and motorists.
He said veteran cycling enthusiasts would conduct orientation for beginner bikers, especially for minors who want to bike with the guidance of adults.
The bike day is part of the recently approved Vulnerable Road Users Ordinance.
