Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company’s (LCMC) has maintained its International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001: 2015 certificate with zero nonconformity this year, in the recently concluded remote and onsite environmental follow up audit by TUV Rheinlad Philippines, Inc.
This is the fifth time Lepanto has passed the said audit with zero nonconformity, covering three sites – Corporate Office in Makati City; Lepanto Warehouse in Malolos, Bulacan; and Lepanto Mine Division in Mankayan, Benguet.
In the audit report, TUV commended the company’s efforts in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic, detailing all the assistance Lepanto has been extending to its employees and the surrounding communities.
TUV also lauded Lepanto’s solid waste management, particularly its engineered sanitary landfill (ESL), following the recommendation of the Environmental Management Bureau-Cordillera for all local government units to make the company’s ESL a benchmark in solid waste management in their respective localities.
TUV particularly mentioned all the citations the company has been getting from various LGUs in the Cordillera for their benchmarking activities conducted on site.
“Our five-peat zero nonconformity only proves that we have been consistent in our environmental performance over the years. It takes strong determination, steadfast commitment and above all, unwavering support from our employees and our surrounding communities,” Lepanto’s Environmental Management Representative and VP for HR and Administration and CSR Knestor Jose Y. Godino said.
Lepanto’s ISO 14001:2015 certification came in perfect timing as the company marks its 84th anniversary this September.
“On this birthday of Lepanto, we maintained our ISO 14001:2015 certification which is an international standard in environmental management. This is a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment environmental stewardship and sustainable development,” said LCMC President and Chief Operations Officer Bryan U. Yap.
Lepanto first obtained its ISO:14001 certification in 2016. – Press release
