The city government is rushing to implement the construction of two district health centers in two barangays to avoid the possibility that funds allotted for these projects will revert to the general fund.

In the case of Bakakeng Norte/Sur, City Administrator Bonifacio dela Peña said the project has not been bid out as technical personnel of the city government are still determining the “situation” of the property donated to the city government by a subdivision company.

In the case of Aurora Hill, dela Peña said the executive department is awaiting the city council’s action on the amendment of an ordinance prohibiting the construction of buildings within Bayan Park.

Both projects have been funded by the national government – the former by the Department of Public Works and Highways worth P20 million under the Bayanihan 2 and the latter P10M from the Department of Health.

Dela Peña said if the projects do not commence by June, funds allotted will revert to the general fund.

The Bakakeng district health center will serve as a replacement of the Atab District Health Center which is about to be demolished as the same is located within the right-of-way of Balacbac and Sto. Tomas roads.

The Aurora Hill district health center, on the other hand, will be transferred to a 300-square meter portion of Bayan Park after officials of the health center requested the local government for wider space to be able to accommodate the increasing number of clients. – PIO release
