Seasoned golfer Bong Mandapat, Jr. fired a gross of six-over at the par 61 Baguio Country Club golf course to emerge the overall champion in the Potenciano Ilusorio Memorial Cup held June 24 and 25.

Familiarity with the difficult course made it easy for Mandapat, who has won countless trophies at BCC over the years.

Another BCC standout, Ed Basbas, carded a seven-over gross to emerge as champion in the member men’s class A followed by Kabayan, Benguet Mayor Jun Bantales with 73 and Earle Farrell with 72.

Richard Co topped the member men’s class B with 78 gross followed by Pyke Limpin and Ed Bucag with 83 and 81, respectively.

Nida Whybrow also carded a 78 gross score to win the member ladies’ A followed by Beth Patterson with 83 and Lanie Julian with 90 while the ladies’ B was topped by Mel Donato with 87 followed by Carol Manhit with 92 and Vivian Chua with 87.

In the guest division, Amor Fores had a gross of 67 to win the men’s A followed by James De Leon with 70 and Henry Rosito with 68 while the men’s B was topped by Rey Dangatan with 73 followed by Diman Felipe and Robert Manrique, both with 82.

The amiable Annika Molintas topped the ladies’ division with 89 followed by Demma Dulnuan with 70, and Mira See with 80.

Mar Bustos won the longest drive after reaching 270 yards at hole three while Ramon Aldana’s 1.5 inches to the line at hole eight won for him the most accurate drive.

Carlo Maranan’s ball landed six yards away from the pin at hole one to win for him the nearest to the pin special award. – Harley F. Palangchao
