The city slaughterhouse is next in line for a public-private partnership (PPP) deal.
A Manila-based company has submitted its proposal to construct a triple A slaughterhouse at a portion of the Dairy Farm, along Marcos Highway, City Veterinarian and Agriculture Officer Silardo Bested said in a press conference last Feb. 22.
The proposal which was submitted last year is under evaluation by P4 Selection Committee.
On top of building and equipping a P100-million-worth slaughterhouse within a 1.5 hectare area, the company also proposed to operate a livestock farm in Tuba, Benguet where Baguio can have additional sources of meat, Bested said.
The company proposed to operate the slaughterhouse for 30 years.
The city government is planning to have an slaughterhouse similar to Tanauan City, Batangas.
The Tanauan slaughterhouse is the first government-owned and operated triple A slaughterhouse.
The slaughterhouse, which started operating in 2020 is equipped with cold storage and cutting equipment.
The P187.2M facility is jointly funded by the Department of Agriculture and the local government of Tanauan
It has a mechanized system that can process 500 head of hogs per eight-hour shift. It is equipped with a cold chain network consisting of three chilling rooms, two blast freezers, and three cold storage rooms. It also has a meat laboratory and wastewater treatment area.
