Rising female mixed martial arts fighter Jenelyn Olsim will make her debut in the ONE Championship circle against Maira Mazar of Brazil on March 19 in Singapore.
Olsim, the 2019 Southeast Asian Games Muay Thai gold medalist, will carry the Team Lakay banner after joining the famed mixed martial arts team late last year.
The strawweight battle between Mazar, who represents Evolve MMA, and Olsim is expected to bring fireworks, as both female fighters are known for their stand-up fight skills.
Mazar, who already has two fights in ONE circle, was a former Pan American sanda champion. She was also a former four-time sanda Brazilian National Championships champion.
She also took up Brazilian jiu-jitsu and became a state champion in the grappling art.
Mazar was not successful in her ONE debut, losing to Ayaka Miura in January 2020 via scarf hold armlock but she bounced back with a technical knockout of Jung Yoon Choi in October 2020.
She currently has seven wins and three losses as a professional MMA fighter.
Olsim is not intimidated by Mazar’s record, as the native of Bokod, Benguet has faced some of the toughest female fighters in the world outside of MMA.
Olsim is one of the formidable Muay Thai athletes from the Philippines having won gold medals in several international competitions, such as the 2018 East Asian Muay Thai Championship where she and her brother, Jerry, won a gold medal in their respective divisions.
Olsim was also a gold medalist in the 2017 Muay Thai National Open held in Manila.
As an MMA fighter, Olsim won in her ONE Warrior Series debut when she dominated Claudia Diaz in the OWS 3 in October 2018 but was defeated by Caitlin McEwen in the OWS 7 in August 2019. Since then, Olsim has not seen action inside the OWS pro-am event.
