Reigning ONE Championship strawweight world champion Joshua Pacio is set to defend his title while compatriot Lito Adiwang will also see action in the stacked ONE: Revolution card in Singapore on Sept. 24.
ONE announced Pacio’s title defense against former champion Yosuke Saruta of Japan will be one of the main championship bouts set for fight night.
It would be an exciting trilogy match between Pacio and Saruta who are even in their two previous fights, with the Japanese fighter winning the first encounter via a split decision in January 2019.
Pacio came back strong in their rematch by capturing the ONE belt with a stunning head kick knockout of Saruta in April of the same year.
After their rematch, both fighters recorded two victories apiece against formidable opponents with Pacio winning over title challengers Rene Catalan via arm-triangle choke and former champion Alex Silva via unanimous decision.
Saruta, on the other hand, stopped Daichi Katakana via knockout and former champion Yoshitaka Naito via decision.
Earlier, Pacio has picked Saruta as his preferred challenger among the shortlisted names of possible title contenders, who are mostly former world champions.
“A trilogy with Saruta would be great, but that would still depend on ONE Championship who will be my next opponent,” Pacio said early this year.
Meanwhile, MMA fans are excited for the return of Adiwang, who made his presence felt inside the ONE circle for his explosiveness and athleticism.
After their cancelled fight early this year, Adiwang will finally face Hexi Getu of China in the strawweight contest.
Getu belongs to the famed China Top Team, one of Beijing’s foremost martial arts camps.
Originally from Horqin, Inner Mongolia, Getu was exposed to Mongolian wrestling at an early age and later added sanda to his arsenal in 2010.
He made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2014, and although he lost a three-round unanimous decision, he learned some valuable lessons that have led him to success today.
Getu is steadily improving his status in the ONE strawweight division having nailed three consecutive wins inside the circle.
