ASIPULO, Ifugao – The Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) trained members of a farmers’ group in this municipality on peanut butter processing.
The training, held in Barangay Amduntog, was provided  to 11 members of the Yattuka Self-Employed Assistance sa Kaunlaran group under the Community Empowerment of the DOST’s Science and Technology (CEST) project.
The peanuts used in the training were harvested from the participants’ farms.
Aside from learning how to make peanut butter, they were also taught good manufacturing practices to make their product credible and competitive by complying with the government’s product standards.
Max Bernard Codamon of PSTC-Ifugao said the CEST project aims to develop sustainable livelihood for residents through the provision of appropriate S&T interventions for the establishment of industries such as peanut butter and veggie bread processing.
Peanut butter processing is one of three projects under the CEST identified by the different groups in Asipulo to alleviate the financial and economic situation of its people especially during the pandemic.
Training on veggie bread processing and shoe repair and handicraft making for persons with disability were conducted in December 2019.
Codamon said through the CEST project, they were also able to provide educational assistance to the municipality such as the Starbooks, ceramic water filter, complimentary foods, and RXBox to the Rural Health Unit for health and nutrition and communication devices to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. – Dan B.
