Let’s start with a prayer for health and healing: “Almighty God, You are the only source of health and healing. In You there is calm, and the only true peace in the universe. Grant to each one of us your children an awareness of Your presence and give us perfect confidence in You. In all pain and weariness and anxiety, teach us to yield ourselves to Your never-failing care, knowing that Your love and power surround us, trusting in Your wisdom and providence to give us health and strength and peace when Your time is best; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

Since this near-sighted Ibaloy writer is an avowed optimist who sees a glass as half full instead of half empty. A silver lining in this dark cloud of the Covid-19 pandemic is that it highlighted the importance of agriculture in the survival of our beautiful archipelago of delicious coconuts and smiling carabaos. In other words, the obvious even became more obvious – that it is agriculture that literally feeds our beloved nation.
We are titillated to learn that Agriculture Sec. William Dar and Mayor Benjamin Magalong recently signed a memorandum of understanding to adopt Baguio as pilot area for the implementation of the urban agriculture project (UAP), aimed to continuously ensure food security in urban areas.
The DA reported that the UAP implemented in support to the “Ahon Lahat Pagkaing Sapat” kontra Covid-19 also known as the Plant, Plant, Plant Program.
Through the UAP, it is hoped that agri-tourism could be developed in Baguio to further promote the importance of agriculture and urge residents to engage in urban gardening.
The project is seen to contribute to the city’s food requirements and to the promotion of better access to food safety.
As an urban gardener, we support this worthwhile project. Cheers!

Here’s “I did not dream” by Antonio Machado: “I did not dream of ever gaining/ the great-great fame and of embedding/ my song into the hearts of fans;/ I like all that is wholly airy,/ all that is weightless, all that’s fairy/ like soap bubbles’ friendly clans./ I like when they, so gay and selfish,/ drink sun and carmine, get a flight/ to skies and then, as in a fright,/ shudder and break and promptly vanish.”
May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continue to bless and keep us all safe.
