The Police Regional Office-Cordillera destroyed a total of P470,000-worth marijuana plants in various sites in Bakun, Benguet from Aug. 14 to 17.
The marijuana eradication was conducted by personnel of the Bakun Municipal Police Station, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Regional and Provincial Intelligence Units, and the Benguet Police Provincial Office.
On Aug. 14, the team conducted the operation at Sitio Bileng, Barangay Kayapa where they discovered 120 pieces of fully grown marijuana in a 30-square meter lot.
The illegal plants, with a standard drug price of P24,000, were planted in a forest land area.
Another operation was conducted on Aug. 16 to 17 in Barangay Kayapa that led to the destruction of 2,230 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants worth P446,000.
The illegal plants were uprooted and burned onsite but there were no cultivators and suspects arrested at the area.
Last July, the marijuana eradication operations at Sitios Lubo, Damuco, Nalusbo, and Macagang, all in Kayapa, resulted in the burning of P192,000 worth of marijuana plants.
Police operatives also discovered six plantation sites in Bakun and Kibungan on June 25 to July 1 where operatives burned P27,302,000 worth of 230 pieces fully grown marijuana, 6,400 pieces of marijuana seedlings, and 225,000 marijuana leaves with fruiting tops.
In Mountain Province, a tourist was arrested in a checkpoint operation in Poblacion, Bontoc on Aug. 11 for transporting six marijuana bricks worth P722,640.00.
The suspect was identified as Raymart Flogio Mendoza, 30, a resident of Tondo, Manila. The suspect will be charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. – Ofelia C. Empian
