To provide a venue to discuss and address the concerns of Baguio farmers, Councilor Philian Weygan-Allan is pushing for the institutionalization of the Baguio Farmers’ Consultation.
In a proposed ordinance, Allan said the consultation also aims to equip Baguio farmers with basic knowledge and modern practices in agriculture.
The proposed ordinance specified that the City Veterinary Office will be tapped to spearhead the consultation.
It also stated that the city library will be furnished with outputs that may emanate from the consultation which the public can use as reference materials.
The proposed activity, once approved, will be partly funded by the city government in an initial amount of P100,000, which can be augmented by the city government’s partnership with non-government agencies to sustain the regular conduct of the activity.
The proposal was approved on first reading during the city council’s regular session on March 20 and was referred to the committee on market, trade, and commerce and agriculture for review and further enhancement.  – Jordan G. Habbiling
