The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera provided 200 coffee seedlings for the Puguis Communal Forest in La Trinidad, Benguet.
This is DA’s contribution in the Adopt-a-Forest program being implemented by the local government of La Trinidad in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Art Pedro said the Adopt-a-Forest Program aims to encourage more stakeholders to participate or be involved in conservation of communal forest and watershed in La Trinidad.
“It is very important to protect these forests for the value they provide for the community both for the present and future generations. We have to be vigilant in protecting these forests from illegal claimants,” Pedro said.
Through a memorandum of agreement, the Adopt-a-Forest Program allows stakeholders to adopt a portion of the forest/waters for them to protect, maintain, and conduct greening activities for five years.
The Bangads-La Trinidad, a riders group, planted the coffee seedlings.
Bangads vice president Albin Pascua said the rainy season is the best time for planting. – Press release
