Dear Manang,
Is there something wrong with politicians today? Among the hundred or something contenders are there any really honest ones for the job? It seems that we keep choosing from the lesser of the evils. Why is our system so corrupt that we must keep the vicious cycle going and no relief in sight? I know a few good men who will not have ulterior motives but to serve the people. But hey! What chance do they have? Are we doomed?
Portia of New Lucban, Baguio City

Dear Portia,
How can we have no faith in our electoral system? I am still a believer in the light at the end of the tunnel. There are a few good men and women. Vote with a conscience. I believe in the golden rule that says to do unto others what you want others to do unto you. The good that will be done will still outshine the negatives someway. I pray there will be more like you.
Vote with a conscience,
Manang

Dear Manang,
Where do we go wrong with our children? My daughter doesn’t seem to have grown up or has grown up without learning morals. Am I a bad parent if my daughter goes astray? I thought I gave my all. I am abroad earning a living for all but it is not worth the thousands of dollars that I make to make sure each of them will be secure in life. Now I learn she has turned to drugs. Do I blame myself?
Gerry of Saudi Arabia

Dear Gerry,
We have children with different personalities and there is no guarantee to their make up after everything is said and done. But I always think that there is a silver lining. Who knows if one day she will be your reformed drug user who will help the others get out of the addiction? I still believe in God’s plan for us. Stay strong and remember that your words need to be tender because sometimes we have to eat them too.
Pray and stay strong,
Manang
