SN Aboitiz Power-Magat sponsored a clean-up drive at the Magat reservoir on June 16 in commemoration of World Environment Month.

Around 200 fisherfolk and purok leaders who are members of the Municipal Fisheries Aquatic Resources Management Council in Ifugao participated in the drive.

The areas covered were sitios Lubbong and Nagtipunan in Alfonso Lista; and barangays Namnama and Halag I, II, III, and IV in Aguinaldo.

The project also covered some areas of SNAP-Magat’s pilot solar project, which is located on the side of Isabela.

The clean-up drive addressed the proliferation of water lilies and driftwood that flowed into the reservoir from upstream.

When left unattended, the reservoir blockage could cause considerable damage to fish cages and affect the communities’ livelihood.

The collected trash was hauled by the volunteers via boats for disposal by collectors from Alfonso Lista.

The Community Environment and Natural Resources-Alfonso Lista and the municipal government also participated in the event.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources also took part by providing additional meals for the attendees, while the National Irrigation Administration equipped the boats used with fuel.

“We remain committed to driving positive actions for the environment through our own programs or in partnership with our stakeholders and host communities,” SNAP-Magat President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Yu said. – Press release
