The major rehabi-litation of the Benguet Sports Complex in La Trinidad continues, as other facilities within the site might be constructed if funds will be available soon.

Benguet caretaker Rep. Eric Yap also reported the multipurpose gymnasium would still be improved with the planned instillation of large LED monitors.

Among the improvements made in the gym are the wooden flooring, digital scoreboards and timers, and other accessories. The bleachers will be improved further while the construction of offices and shower rooms will be implemented next year.

The materials used in the gym are those approved by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), as per recommendation by the Philippine Sports Commission.

The Benguet congressional district has sourced out from the Department of Public Works and Highways around P25 million for the initial improvement of multipurpose gym.

“Ang gusto talaga natin ay makapaghost tayo ng Palarong Pambansa kaya kailangan natin itong maayos talaga,” Yap said.

Aside from the gym, the construction of the oval track is also in full blast with the placing of rubberized tartan track and improvement of the field. The reconstructed grandstand will also be complete with bleachers and additional rooms below.

Yap has also sourced out from DPWH P165 million for the improvement of the sports complex, which is expected to be complete by March 2022.

The provincial government constantly monitors the upgrade of the sports complex, which is being implemented by the Benguet District Engineering Office. – Ofelia C. Empian
