TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Department of Labor and Employment turned over to the city government P1,586,820 as livelihood assistance for vendors.

Avelina Manganip, DOLE provincial head, said the financial assistance under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program is intended to provide uniform tents to 53 ambulant vendors.

City Public Employment Service Officer Loyda Saboy said the amount is a big help to improve the livelihood of the beneficiaries who are using makeshift tents along the city’s main thoroughfare fronting schools.

The project requested by the city is seen to help fix the messy situation on the site where proper vendor spaces will be assigned.

“Instead of driving the small vendors away, let’s instead help them. They too, have families to support,” Saboy said.

The vendors were urged to maintain the tents to add score to the landscaping in the area. – Larry Lopez
