BANGUED, Abra – Proper hygiene and rehydration is one of the basic classroom processes introduced by the Department of Education among its schools to fight the spread of coronavirus disease-2019 (Covid-19).

With surface contact identified as one of the modes of transmission of the Covid-19, the Schools Division Office (SDO)of Abra has set up a touch-free hand washing facility made from of recyclable materials.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Project Development Officer Jun Rifareal conceptualized the hand washing facility, which allows users to wash their hands without touching the faucet.

The facility is equipped with pedals connected to the faucet and liquid soap container which automatically open when pressed.

Two of the facilities have been installed at the entrance of SDO-Abra building.

Senior Education Program Specialist Jan Nowell Peña said the Abra SDO has instructed DepEd schools to replicate the hand washing system before the start of classes on Aug. 24.

“One of our priorities for the Oplan Balik Eskwela will be the establishment of these hand washing facilities for DepEd schools. We will inspect them if they are ready before the start of classes,” Peña said.
