The city government will soon implement a digital monitoring and surveillance system for logistics businesses including trucking and hauling companies as an added countermeasure against the Covid-19.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the Transport Pre-Alert and Support System (T-PASS), a digital platform for registration and checkpoint system for cargoes, will answer the city’s need for a scheme to monitor and collect data on the logistics vehicles, persons and cargoes passing through the city’s checkpoints.
It can also enhance the city’s Covid containment measures by improving monitoring system of entrants and aiding in contact tracing data and at the same time address border control issues currently being experienced by the city like cargo and human smuggling, the mayor added.
“The system is certainly an effective way of monitoring the logistics business and the empirical data will help us to come up with more strategic programs against Covid especially in containing transmissions occurring through movement of people engaged in this industry,” he said.
The T-PASS is one of the ventures of OneLGC owned by businessman Alberto Lina and it is being offered for free to the city.
During the soft launching program held Sept. 23, company executive Edgardo Cayton said Baguio City will be the first recipient of the program in the country as part of the company’s thrust to help local government units in the fight against Covid and in their urban planning programs on transport movement.
Apart from the platform, the company also donated 10 units of mobile phones for use of the checkpoints for the program.
Magalong thanked the company for the donations and said the city will work out the rolling out of the program as soon as possible.
Executive Asst. V Felipe Puzon of the City Mayor’s Office said the city will begin with an information campaign to acquaint stakeholders with the scheme and all its processes preparatory to its full-blown implementation. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
