Mountain running enthusiasts in the Cordillera are up for more exciting events this 2020.
Set Jan. 12 is the Philippine Mountain Marathon featuring the vertical kilometer, 42-kilometer, and 25-km. runs in the rocky mountains of Kibungan, Benguet.
Organized by Team Malaya, the event will let participants go through the unique mountains, hills, and small valleys of the town often said to resemble the Swiss Trails.
“This is not a typical trail running experience. However, if you have the guts to challenge yourself to step away quite further from your comfort zone, this might just be the best opportunity,” organizers said.
The event is also a 2021 candidate for the Race of Asia Trail Master and the final leg of the Cordillera Series of Team Malaya.
Registration is open with a fee of P1,500 for the vertical kilometer; P3,500 for the 42-km and P2,500 for the 25-km. inclusive of personalized bib, finisher’s medal, finisher’s medal and shirt, and post-run meal.
Fifty slots each are available for the vertical kilometer and 42-km. and 100 slots for the 25-km. event.

Meanwhile, the annual Philippine Skyrunning Championships will be held Feb. 1 to 2 in Tinongdan, Itogon, Benguet.
The event will feature 49-km., 25-km., 10-km., vertical kilometer, and kiddie akyathlon.
The grueling 49-km. will serve as the Philippine Skyrunning National Championships where victors from the men’s and women’s categories will represent the country in the Asian Skyrunning Championships at the end of the year.
“This is a challenging course reserved for serious skyrunners. There will be intermediate cut-offs along the course and runners who miss the cut-off time will not be allowed to continue the race,” organizers said.
Registration is now open for the event with the 49-km. at P3,500; 25-km. at P2,500; 10-km. at P1,500; vertical kilometer at P1,200, and kiddie akyathlon at P500.
