The city council presided by Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan has shortened its session last Sept. 27 in deference to the memorandum of Mayor Benjamin Magalong suspending office works at 3:30 p.m. for the observance of the “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga” Day pursuant to Proclamation 326, s. 2012 and Resolution 223, s. 2012.
The occasion is held every fourth Monday of September to recognize the sanctity of family life and the protection and strengthening of the family as the basic social unit.
The city council, in aid of legislation, listened to representatives of the different Internet providers regarding their service operations in the city for purposes of determining the extent of their accomplishments and compliance to vital requirements, including needed actions that the city government can extend for the full upgrading and delivery of quality Internet services to residents.
The meeting sought clarifications and solutions to common problems encountered by subscribers regarding Internet connections and such other customer service issues, and a venue for action to calibrate and prevent graver problems that may be brought by the start of classes, the alternative work arrangement for employees, and various national exams scheduled in the city which require reliable and available Internet services at all times.
According to the resource’s persons, their respective companies are currently completing the migration of their copper lines to fiber optics to ensure continuous network availability for customers.
Most are now offering to subscribers’ base local area network of 35 mpbs as the lowest and with average speed of not lower than 25mbps.
In terms of manpower, they have available teams to do repair and restoration works within 24 to 48 hours.
They are also completing their network reach/rollout to cover all applicants and have business centers in city catering to their subscribers through various customer service channels such as online hotline, social media accounts, and mobile app that customers can download and access.
Due to lack of time, the body has requested all providers operating in the city such as Converge ICT Solutions Inc., PLDT Telecommunications Company, Globe Telecom Inc., and Sky Cable Corporation to submit to the city council a comprehensive report of their accomplished projects, innovations, present projects and/or mitigating measures to counter Internet problems, including their future plans relative to Internet service improvement.
The body sent a resolution of condolences of the city government to the bereaved family of the late former Councilor Jesus “Jess” Gonzales Tabora Jr.
Tabora served as councilor from June 30, 1998 until June 30, 2001. He is one of the main authors of Tax Ordinance Numbered 2000-001.
He was a stalwart Rotarian belonging to the vibrant Rotary International Baguio that reaches out and enriches the lives of the people and advancing global understanding through different global affiliates.
As an entrepreneur and the former regional director of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Cordillera and a board member of PCCI Baguio-Benguet Chapter, he actively participated in investment missions promoting the City of Baguio in national and international trades.
The resolution is ever grateful for his personal and official efforts invested in enterprise development, competitiveness, and skills enhancement programs for the community.
“Jess’ life was fully spent on unselfish service in promoting enterprises and entrepreneurship and to the people of the City of Baguio,” reads the resolution.
In Resolution 468. s. 2021, the city council commended all teachers and educators in the City of Baguio for their service, efforts, and contributions during the celebration of the National Teachers’ Month.
Presidential Proclamation 242, s. 2011 declares Sept. 5 to Oct. 5 of every year as National Teachers’ Month with this year’s theme, “My teacher, my frontline hero” to highlight the important role of teachers and educators in the successful development of the community.
