URBAN SPRAWL — Once the only American hill station in Asia at the beginning of the 20th century, Baguio City which will mark its 114th charter day anniversary on Sept.1, is facing an uphill battle to conserve and preserve what is left of the city that is one of the densely populated areas in the country today with an average of 6,370 individuals per square kilometers. Expansion of business and other economic activities in the outlying towns of Benguet will save the city from urban sprawl and at the same time opens opportunities for the nearby province.
