VICTORY DAY — National Artist Fernando Amorsolo used Carl Mydans’ photos as the basis for his painting of Yamashita’s surrender on Sept. 3, 1945 at Camp Jon Hay where the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence in Baguio now stands. In this painting, Yamashita confers with his colleague during the signing of the unconditional surrender of Japanese Forces in the Philippines that ended World War II in the Asia-Pacific. The painting is on display at the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence in Baguio. — U.S. Embassy brochure
