April 25, 2024

According to Google and several Filipino-Chinese friends who fancy themselves as experts when it comes to these things, 2023 is the year of the Water Rabbit and those born under this zodiac sign are supposedly “well-known, intuitive, and thoughtful persons. They may be very sensitive and easily offended. They are very precise and like to do it all thoroughly. They also have a wonderful memory.”
Basing on this description, assuming that it is accurate, this near-sighted Ibaloy writer is definitely not a water rabbit if only because I admittedly don’t have a “wonderful memory”. There are times when I forget where the car keys are or even where our dilapidated chariot of a vehicle was parked especially when my family goes out for dinner or whatnot.
In all innocence, I even forget my wife’s birthday and our anniversary at times which, thank God, my better half does not really mind and just puts it down to my nearing senior citizen territory. No offense, of course, to our beloved elderly most of whom still have sharp memories and continue to be productive members of our society even more so than many who are much younger than they are.
Anyway, being forgetful can be an advantage at times since I’m sure that many will agree that there are instances in our lives that we would rather forget like those that have caused us much pain, sadness or even shame. If erasing unwanted past actions, instances or events in our lives is a superpower, I’m sure that many would love to be bestowed this power. Who wouldn’t want to erase past wrongs and mistakes and start on a clean slate?
As the saying goes, however, that’s life and whether we like it or not, we have to accept both the good and the bad that this imperfect world of ours offers us on a daily basis. We can only do the best we can under all circumstances. Oh, well.
May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continue to bless and keep us all safe.
