Methane gas production for cooking

The price of liquefied petroleum gas, which is methane and used for cooking in most households, has increased because of high demand and low supply of LPG.
Methane is emitted from a decomposition process and is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas that leads to global warming.
Livestock farming generates around 40 percent of the methane produced, the rest by the fossil fuel industry.
When we were students at the Benguet State University, we had been producing methane bio-gas from our animal projects by channeling the wastes into a series of tanks as they decompose and the fully decomposed waste materials are used as organic fertilizer.
Methane can also be produced from garbage dumping sites as a means of sanitizing waste disposal.
Generation of methane is renewable, easy, substantial, cheap, and quality source of energy.
Agencies concerned with agriculture, energy, environment, and trade and industry could spearhead on commercial methane gas production as a way of providing fuel and preventing accumulation of greenhouse gases and climate changes. — PERCIVAL B. ALIPIT, Baguio City
