Retain the professional licensure examinations

Will the proposal to abolish licensure examination do any good in producing quality graduates? It will only lead to the proliferation of diploma mills and our country will lag in educational excellence.
Tests are administered to assess a student’s academic performance. Having examinations will gauge teaching effectiveness and knowledge absorbency of learners. They challenge teachers and students to strive to do their best.
Having licensure examinations is a plus factor in the accreditation of colleges and universities and in the hiring and promotion of employees.
A professional license is required in our country and abroad where millions of Filipino professionals seek employment.
Instead of doing away with the licensure examinations, let us think of ways to improve the teaching and learning process to ensure proficiency and employability of graduates and to make representations to have our professional license be internationally recognized. — PERCIVAL B. ALIPIT, Baguio City
