The Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (Fessap) executive committee has chosen Baguio as host of the qualifying tournament next month for the 31st Summer Universiade Games 2021.
The 31st Summer Universiade, or the World University Games, is set in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China from Aug. 18 to 29.
The Fessap execom has tasked Fessap-Cordillera representative and FISU (the international federation for university sports) ambassador for 2020 Loren Chloe Balaoing of Baguio to supervise the qualifying tournament.
The Fessap announced archers 18 to 25 years old who are enrolled at a Fessap-member university/college are set to participate in the tryouts on April 10 at the Baguio Archery Club at the Athletic Bowl complex.
Recent graduates who are within the age limit are also qualified to take part in the event. The tryouts will be held at the athlete’s respective archery ranges. The member-school will be in charge of the target face that will be used during the tryouts.
From the tryouts, Fessap will select 12 archers, or three archers per event such as in the recurve men, recurve women, compound men, and compound women.
The tryout format is: 70 meters for recurve; 122 cm, one archer per target face; 50 meters for compound; and 80 cm, one archer per target face.
In the event that less than, or exactly, three archers per category fulfilled their registration form on time, they will automatically be selected and need not join the tryouts on said date.
The registered university-members with the Fessap in Cordillera are the University of Baguio, Benguet State University, and the University of Cordilleras.
