In celebration of the International Day of Action for Rivers and United Nation World Waters Day, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Calamagan in Buguias, Benguet spearheaded a clean-up drive and tree planting on March 22.
The activity which banners the theme “Valuing water and rights of rivers = Safe, secure, better Juan’s future,” aims to solicit alternative solutions from the community and various stakeholders.
“Our place is one of the sources of water in the Cordillera. As members of the community, it is our responsibility to protect and preserve our water source,” SK Chair Aldrix Bolinto said.
Bolinto encouraged the community to do their part in educating the future generation to protect the river from pollution.
The activity is also anchored on the ecological solid waste management program of the municipality.
The participants composed of volunteer groups and individuals, barangay youth and council members, teachers from the Department of Education, personnel from Community Environment and Natural Resources Office-Buguias, 1st Benguet Provincial Mobile Force Company, Philippine National Police Special Action Force 143 Special Action Company, and Buguias Municipal Police Station signed a Panunumpa sa Kalikasan tarpaulin as commitment that they are environmental warriors that advocates for the preservation and protection of water sources.
