Various competitions showing the creative skills of Benguet youth are now open for individuals aged 15 to 25 years old.
Dubbed “Benguet youth competition,” the contest features four categories: photography, creative writing, artwork on poster making, and group short filmmaking.
For the individual photography contest, the image should dwell on cultural and historical tourism sites in the province. Entries will be judged based on impact, presentation, technical excellence, lighting, creativity, storytelling, subject matter, color balance, composition, and center of interest of the photo.
In the creative writing, entries should not be longer than 5,000 words and must dwell on the importance of family and culture. It will be judged based on creativity – 40 percent; structure – 20 percent; adherence to topic – 10 percent; grammar – 10 percent; length – 10 percent; and “wow” factor – 10 percent.
Artworks in the poster making shall showcase a Benguet tourism site with a short description. Materials to be used are crayons, pastel, water color, or acrylic in one-fourth illustration board. It will be judged based on originality, quality, overall presentation, and subject matter of the image.
For the short film, it shall not exceed seven minutes and could be in English, Filipino or “Taglish.” The topic of the film should focus on family, environment, tourism, culture, and Filipino values. Entries will be judged based on originality and creativity, cinematography, sound quality, message, plot, entertainment value, and call to action.
Entries in all categories must not be submitted to other organization or production and has not been entered in other competitions. Out-of-school youths can join in all categories except for the essay writing, which is open to all students.
Last submission of entries will be on Nov. 20 at the governor’s office or in their respective Sangguniang Kabataan offices. Interested participants must submit with their contest pieces a photocopy of their valid IDs.
Prizes are at stake for the solo photography, solo creative writing, and solo poster making. Top winners will get P7,000; second place – P4,000, and third place – P2,000.
The prizes for the short film making are first place – P15,000; second place – P10,000, and third place – P4,000.
