TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Four hundred ten incoming college students for school year 2021-2022 have applied for the educational assistance of the Department of Science and Technology in the province.
DOST-Kalinga Head Jasmine Donaal said the undergraduate scholarship is offered by the Department’s Science Education Institute (SEI) to Grade 12 students who are enrolled in the Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) strand and also to non-STEM who are within the top percent of the graduating class.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the qualifying examination set in October was moved anytime between January and June 2021.
Beneficiaries of the program must enroll in courses leading to Bachelor of Science in Engineering, BS in Education Major in Science and Math, BS in Pharmacy, and BS in Medical Technology.
Scholars are given yearly tuition of P40,000; monthly allowance of P7,000; and other privileges.
To maintain the scholarship support, grantees are required to achieve an academic average rating of at least 85 percent for the first and second years and must not have any failing grade for third year and the rest of their stay in college.
At present, Kalinga has nine scholars under the program. Two scholars graduated from the Kalinga State University last year.
Donaal said graduates of the program are given priority in DOST hiring. – Larry Lopez
