The much-awaited second edition of the Fil-Am Junior Golf Tournament set in Baguio on May 30 to June 2 has been cancelled.

The Fil-Am Golf Foundation, organizer of the event, said the cancellation of the tournament is in support of the government’s policy against the spread of Covid-19 even if the Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine has been lifted by then.

Malacañang has extended the EQC up to April 30.

“In light of the current Covid-19 situation and in support of the government’s guidance regarding travel and social distancing, the Fil-Am Golf Foundation is compelled to cancel the tournament,” reads the statement released by the organizers.

“The health and well-being of our jungolfers, parents, staff, and all those associated with the tournament are of outmost importance to us,” they added.

The tournament originally set at the Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay was supposed to gather top junior golfers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The tournament, which aims to discover future professional Filipino golfers, was supposed to adopt the 36-hole Molave point system.

In its first staging last year, the classifications are Fil A for 17 to 18 years old; Fil B for 15 to 16; Fil C for 13 to 14; Am A for 11 to 12; Am B for nine to 10; and Am C for eight years old and below.
